In many ways it's easy to see Scarlet Dawn as a direct sequel to Neon Apocalypse. After all, a morning sky like that might well be something one would see after a nuclear attack. And, sure, the first song is called “Consequences”. But, really, it's an album about the dissolution of a relationship, and what happens afterwards. Can you still be friends? Is that even possible? Do you lose everything you'd made with this person? Not only that, but who is that person you're seeing in the mirror? Now you've got to get to know him (or her) again. And you may or may not like what you get to know. It's going to be a very difficult process, which is why the album is called “Scarlet Dawn”... “Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning...”
While not a concept album per se, thematically, lyrically, and visually it's my most cohesive. The songs all seem to fit together really well, too – it's not a jumble of many disparate styles. But that makes sense – I did this album in less than a year and to date it's still my quickest project.

And maybe you could see
All the confidence you lack
And maybe you could dream
For the things you can't take back
And maybe you could see
And hear
The beating in your heart
And maybe you could win
My love
No matter who you are
Hey
What are you thinking of
Hey
The consequence of love
And maybe you could grieve
For the oxygen you'd lost
And maybe we could meet
And burn the bridge we'd crossed
And maybe you could read
Between
The lines you never saw
And maybe you could wish
For love
No matter who you are
Hey
There's no use being numb
Hey
The consequence of love
And you could feel without a face
And we could leave without a trace
Probably
Oh maybe
I could give you a reason to cry
Probably
Oh baby
You could give me a reason to lie
Probably
Oh maybe
I'd give in
But I'd never give up
Our love is like the sun eclipsed
Waiting for time to take this moon
Where darkness falls in every kiss
But our love still burns true
Probably
Oh maybe
I could give you a reason to pray
Probably
Oh baby
You would give me the chance to betray
Probably
Oh maybe
I'd give in
But I'd never give up
Our love is like the wind unblown
Waiting for the boughs to slowly swoon
Where darkness falls in every hope
But our love still burns true
I'd give in
But I'd never give up
And the real world is forgotten
As the rain falls
You wake
Lay beneath the stars that you fell from
You pray
You pray to be returned from your exile
And you scream
And tumble down the mountain where he put you
And you bleed
It's clear you can be broken by now
Caught between the cure and the crime
Trapped beneath the words you would hide behind
Jammed between the seams
You had sewn within your dreams
Home
Home
You leave
Stumble through the weeds in the moonlight
You breathe
There's something in the air you could do without
Now
And you need
The need to purge this nagging doubt
Out
And you bleed
Invincible it seems
No more
Caught between the true and the tried
Trapped beneath the grace you would hide behind
Tucked within the seams
You would never see in dreams
Home
Home
Who could throw away this love
Somehow paradise was not enough
You could always have the world beneath you
Caught between the cure and the crime
Trapped beneath the words you would hide behind
Jammed between the seams
You had sewn within your dreams
Home
Home
Home
I won't give up
You won't give in
And in your mind
I suppose that it's a sin
Straightforward cry
From this broken heart
Don't you get lost now, baby, cos
I'll hold the stars
For you
Like I'm right next to you
And you
You need not fear
For you
I'll shed your tears
You can breathe like the rainbow
When the sun won't shine on you
You can see through the window
When the shades are drawn at two
You can wave like the ocean
When the spring forgets to bloom
And your eyes
Your eyes
You look at me
You are
My baby blue
We scream beneath
Sweet summer song
You second guess
When your first one wasn't wrong
September sky
As blue as your bond
If you get lost now, babe
I'll be your setting sun
For you
Like I always promised you
And you
You need not cry
For you
Knew all the while
You can breathe like the rainbow
When the sun won't shine on you
You can see through the window
When the shades are drawn at two
You can wave like the ocean
When the spring refuses to bloom
And your eyes
Your eyes
You look at me
You are
My baby blue
And if innocence is bliss
I could tell you
I'd never let you go
Corrupt you with a kiss
And you know
I cannot live without you
Without you
Keeping to the corner
Of the chill wind
Running down the dream
I forgot
I'm feeling the rush
As you rise up in front of me
And the night is all we've got
Sounds like something from a fairytale
But stories like that make me cry
When your eyes close
Will your smile light up the room
Will it see me through the night
When your eyes close
And your heart turns to blue
Will I still be loved
Through the night
Spelling out the words
That I'm left with
Crying out the night
With a kiss
I wish I could stand
On the far side of a memory
With the passion fruit of your lips
Sounds like something from a fairytale
But stories like that make me cry
When your eyes close
Will your smile light up the room
Will it see me through the night
When your eyes close
And your heart turns to blue
Will I still be loved
Through the night
When you walk out that door
Will I see you no more
Will my eyes run like a river
So deep
Where I can't swim
I can't breathe
I can't go
But your eyes
And your ears
And your heart
And your throat
Keep me afloat
When your eyes close
Will your smile light up the room
Will it see me through the night
When your eyes close
And your heart turns to blue
Will I still be loved
Through the night
Just settle down
Comb your hair
Your reflection tells you
What you already know
If you dare
Anything you won't believe
When you're tired of letting go
More than anything you know
Wishing you were made of stone
If I can't sleep
Then you can't dream
Just settle down
Have no fear
Let those wild night things
You talk about in the evening
Disappear
Anything you don't believe
When you're falling through the past
Wishing we were built to last
Baby don't overreact
If you can't sleep
Then I can't dream
Settle down
The world's deceived you
Settle down, my love
Settle down
Who won't believe you now
Just settle down
Just settle down
Don't despair
Your intention tells you
What you already know
If you're there
Anything you would believe
Like how I need you
How I breathe you
How I see
If we can't sleep
Then we can't dream
Just settle down
Tonight the stars don't shine
The way they did before
And those northern lights
They crumble
Colors I adore
Your eyes the fireflies
The moonlight and your lips
That celestial umbrella
Colors of eclipse
I would give anything to hurt you
But in that Ursa canvas shine
I still believe you're mine
Midnight
Alive despite the teardrops on this heart
Like a cosmic Cinderella
You weren't what you are
Believe
The space between the farthest and the from
Thought it safe enough a distance
Safe enough for love
I would give anything to hurt you
But in that canvas of the stars
The universe is ours
What made us fall out from this orbit love
What made us think we'd last the night
And if all of this could be undone
Be undone
Like a star we'd surely die
Tonight the stars will cry
As shadows will appear
In a kamakazee morning
Colors disappear
I can see the galaxies
That rotate in your mind
Like a universe of meddlies
Once upon a time
I would give anything to hurt you
But in that Ursa canvas shine
I still believe you're mine
I would give anything to hurt you
But in that Ursa canvas shine
I still believe your heart
Is mine
Wake upon
Scarlet dawn
Watch the stars fade
To where they don't belong
In or out of jest
How quickly you protest
To mean anything to me
More or less
And once again
You destroy the fabric of
Space and time
It's my last excuse to cry
Over you
Twilight queen
In lieu of coming clean
Collapse a constellation
Destroy a cosmic dream
In or out of truth
How quickly you're unglued
From your own intentions
Win or lose
And once again
You destroy the fabric of
Space and time
It's my last excuse to cry
Over you
Fall beneath
Far between
Watch the stars fade
To where they can't be seen
In or out of love
How quickly you're undone
If you can stay the night
I can kill the sun
And once again
You destroy the fabric of
Space and time
It's my last excuse to cry
Over you
The night
The night you treaded silver
The rapid pace of never
On you
So still and long ago
If I could ever see you
If I could ever touch you
If I could ever hold you
I would
Again
And when
The wind refused to blow
Your eyes
Lost in the undertow
To where I'll never know
If I could kiss the whisper
If I could change forever
If I could kiss the whisper
In your eyes
In my mind
The night
The stars refused to shine
Your eyes
Were never so divine
When last they met with mine
If I could kiss the whisper
If I could change forever
If I could kiss the whisper
In your eyes
In my mind
Forsaken to my will
I dare deserve this chill
What you rode in on
I took away
So cut my hands off
As I pray
Cos I'll never be where you are
No matter what they say
If I could kiss the whisper
If I could change forever
If I could kiss the whisper
Would you mind
If I cried
I see her
I see her walking
To where I want to be
She tells me
Tell me she loves me
we're soul mates
Can't you see
I feel her
I feel her moving but it's
Distant to the touch
I see her
I see her walking
And my dreams become her crutch
Far away
Around the world
My soulmate sings
The Caterpillar Girl
And I know
I know her whispers as they
Drift into the sky
And I know
I know she loves me
But still I don't know why
And she talks
She talks in heartbeats
But still it ain't the same
Cos I know
I know her whispers take a
Beating in the rain
Far away
Around the world
Her heartbeat sings
The Caterpillar Girl
La da da da
La da da da
La da da da
La da da da
Far away
Around the world
My soulmate sings
The Caterpillar Girl
Through night and day
And eyes like pearls
She's watching me
The Caterpillar Girl
