No Closer Sound & Vision

About Still No Closer To Tomorrow

"It really is about… as you get older, the days keep passing, the sun keeps setting, but that tomorrow you promised yourself just hasn't come up yet. And I think I think in that way, it's very much the cornerstone of the album because that's really the essence of what the whole album is about."

The third single from The Art of Tactful Procrastination.

Release Date: October 15, 2021

No Closer Lyrics

Still No Closer To Tomorrow

Nobody knows your name
Surely somebody should know by now
Nobody’s left to blame
You’re throwing rocks at every window

When the clock stops
Every door’s locked
See your shadow stretch from the sun
Well there’s no one else
Behind you
Carry on
What you’ve left undone

Do you remember yesterday
All those promises you’d made
To yourself
And those you know
The sun goes down
But you’re still no closer to tomorrow

Then it’s one more reason to live your life
With your hands tied behind your back
The waiting room’s full of hopes and dreams
But they won’t land in your lap
Well your heart don’t beat the way it used to and
Now you’ve too much to lose
But treading the ground beneath you
Won’t guide you through

Do you remember yesterday
All those promises you’d made
To yourself
And those you know
The sun goes down
But you’re still no closer to tomorrow

Wherever the beat lies
Whenever the rain feels honest
When you bleed
It’s alright

Do you remember yesterday
All those promises you’d made
To yourself
And those you know
The sun goes down
But you’re still no closer to tomorrow

Nobody knows your name
Nobody knows your name

Someday Soon

You don’t want some love
You don’t want some name
And everything stays the same
But even roses bloom in time

You won’t be held down
And you will not be tamed
Like a prisoner in a cage
Just say the word I’ll come inside

Because you’re mine
Mine
Everyone is waiting, beautiful
And like the ocean tide awaits the full moon
Maybe this will happen
Someday soon

You don’t play by chance
And you don’t want routine
You demand all that's in between
Til your heart is satisfied

You won’t come undone
And you won’t be denied
Well everyone wants inside
They couldn’t have you if they tried

Because you’re mine
Mine
Everyone is waiting, beautiful
So open up the doors and own the room
Maybe this will happen
Someday soon

Someday soon
In the middle of the universe
You can tell me what it’s all worth

Because you’re mine
Mine
Everyone is waiting, beautiful
All you’ve ever wanted will come true
But all I want is you

No Closer Trivia And Other Stories

One of the first demos I started working on back in the Fall of 2014. I knew I had something the moment I started strumming it.

"It honestly feels like it could have, in a way, maybe sat next to [the Smashing Pumpkins’] 1979, you know, different subject matter, right? But has a similar sound to it, but maybe a lot more layers."

"Another song that musically influenced it would be 'If God Would Send His Angels' by U2 off the POP album. …My bass line’s a little bit similar to that. I kind of almost reversed what they did and I liked it. I liked that pace and that speed of that song and sort of the, I don't know, spaciousness."

"It's a lament in a sense that it's like the singer is kind of a little, you know, bummed that he hasn't gotten where he expected to be by now. But there's also an aspect of… he’s still trying, and that's that glimmer of hope or that silver lining."
