We All Have Our Mountains To Climb...

I call it a "New(ish) album". I always wanted to do something that was kind of like the Smashing Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot, or Oasis' Masterplan, that kind of thing, where they just basically collected all of their B-sides and put them together.

The great thing about this was, for the most part, there wasn't a whole lot of recording I had to do... Most of the tracks were pretty much ready to go apart from a few fixes here and there. I didn't have to waste hours and hours and hours to get vocals right. So that was also helpful.

I can tell you that when I did songs like "Tongue in Cheek" and "Vampire", those were very Spacehog and Pumpkins. A little bit of David Bowie, a little bit of Iggy Pop. Those were thought of as more like straight up rocking. And I think the very end of "Tongue in Cheek" makes me think of Ugly Kid Joe a little bit, so that's great.

No Shortage of Good Ideas

"A captivating musical journey!" - We Write About Music

RELEASED May 19, 2023

"The title No Shortage of Good Ideas is taken from a book by C.S. Lewis called A Year With C.S. Lewis, a daily reader that features quotes and blurbs from many of his Christian-focused works. I thought it would be a fun, snarky title for a followup to The Art of Tactful Procrastinationand in my mind I had wanted to do it as a real, full album of completely new tracks - the other side of the Tactful Procrastination experience.

But, when it became clear that I wasn't going to be doing the planned 6th and 7th singles, I decided this might be the perfect opportunity to do something of a hybrid album featuring enhanced b-side mixes, intended b-sides that didn't get released, and some other songs from my past that never got the time of day that I feel they truly deserved. As a result, No Shortage of Good Ideas has taken on a bit of a different meaning."
